Bolton Ings - 17th June

14c at 8 oclock this morning but felt like November not June, but only a few spots of rain thankfully. Highlights this morning were Avocet through at 09.30, singing Garden Warbler and I finally saw some Oystercatcher chicks. Full list as follows :- Grey Heron 2, Mute Swan 6 adults (broods of 4 & 2), Canada Goose 30 (brood of 6), Grey Lag Goose 4, Great Crested Grebe 6, Little Grebe 9, Cormorant 2, Mallard 35 (brood of 3), Gadwall 37, Wigeon 1 drake, Tufted Duck 30 (24 drakes, 6 ducks), Pochard 7 (2 drakes, 5 ducks), Coot 72 (broods of 4, 4, 3, 3, 3, 3, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 1 & 1), Moorhen 4, Lapwing 14 + 4 juvs flying, Oystercatcher 6 + 2 juvs, Avocet 1, Redshank 1, Black Headed Gull 342, Common Tern 2, Kestrel 2, Green Woodpecker 1, Kingfisher 1, Chiffchaff 6, Blackcap 6, Willow Warbler 5, Whitethroat 5 and Garden Warbler 1.
