Old Moor - 17th June

Another good day at Old Moor where there is more good news on the Avocets, another new brood today makes 14 chicks (broods of 4, 4, 2, 2 and 2). Add to those the 2 that were lost makes 16 chicks hatched, the oldest 2 chicks are now well grown. The female Bittern was again seen well, and was seen quite a few times from the Wader Scrape hide. The Mediterranean Gull was again on the Wader Scrape and new in were 4 Dunlin, autumn migration has begun? Gadwall numbers are soaring, 291 were counted today between Old Moor, Bolton Ings and Wombwell Ings and that number didn't include females with ducklings. Hobby was seen over Broomhill and Old Moor and a pair of Garganey and 11 Teal were on Wombwell Ings. WEBS count next Sunday, should be interesting, will the first Green Sandpiper be back?
