Carlton Marsh

This afternoon there were 2 Little Egrets on the New Scrape. Two new broods of Gadwall were feeding on the marsh and a new brood of 5 Mallard were on the school pond. Willow Tit was calling from SE3710 & 3709. A Sparrowhawk is still sitting and our pair of Little Owls have 1 juv. Garden Warbler, Sedge Warbler and Blackcap were singing along with a Song Thrush.
A Fox was harassing the wildfowl at 20.30hrs and a Noctule Bat was on the wing as I left at dusk.
Yellow Bunting and Reed Warbler were ringed and 2 Chiffchaffs from last year had returned.
Red Admiral, Large Skipper and Common Blue were amongst the butterflies on show.

Chris Parkin discovered our first ever Bee Fly earlier and went home to find a Humming-bird Hawk Moth feeding on Valerian in his garden!

In Carlton Dave Smith's neighbour was pleased to find a single Bee Orchid growing in his garden.
