South Kirkby reclaimed tip

Ralph Hibbert, Les Corrall and me arrived mid morning just as a Buzzard passed overhead mobbed by 2 Crows. Our main preoccupation today was insects, but the sun kept clouding over. However, we managed to count 147 Common Blue, 5 Dingy Skippers and 9 Small Heath butterflies along with Silver Ground Carpet, Cinnabar and Common Carpet moths.
Dragonflies included 3 Four Spot Chaser, 2 Large Red Damselfly and several Azure Damselflies. Then Les suddenly spotted a grey-backed female Wheatear.  It didn't appear to have a male with it and being so well marked it is probably a late bird of the Greenland race. Then a Little Ringed Plover flew across, a perfect nest for it. Ralph spotted several Bee Orchids in flower amongst Viper's bugloss.
