The Edge 9th June

Wombwell Ings - Present were 20 Gadwall, 11 Mallard, 9 Tufted Duck, 1 Shoveler, 2 Grey Partridge, 1 Grey Heron, 1 Great Crested Grebe, 19 Coot, 4 Moorhen, 7 Lapwing+ 1 chick, 3 Redshank, 2 Little Ringed Plover, 5 BH Gull, 3 Skylark, 3 Pied Wagtail, 1 Meadow Pipit and 2 Reed Bunting.
Broomhill Flash - Noted were 2 Mute Swan +6 cygnets, 29 Canada Geese,5 Greylag, 2 Shelduck, 22 Tufted Duck, 10 Gadwall, 4 + 1y Pochard ,5 Mallard, 4 Little Grebe, 36 Coot, 2 Moorhen, 1 Little Egret, 51 BH Gull and 2 LBB Gull.
Warbler Way - Highlight was hearing a Cuckoo calling on Old Moor. Singing males included 8 Chiffchaff, 8 Willow Warbler, 8 Blackcap, 6 Whitethroat and 1 Sedge Warbler. Dismaying to see 2 dead young Magpie and 1 young Jay alongside the path. No sign of the birds being eaten. Possible target practice ?
Bolton Ings - On the open water were 2 Mute Swan +7 cygnets, 8 Canada Geese, 3 Greylag, 31 Tufted Duck, 6a+6y Mallard, 3 Pochard + brood of 8 ducklings, 4a+2y Great Crested Grebe, 3  Little Grebe, 81 Coot, 1 Moorhen, 1 Cormorant, 175+ BH Gull, 1 LBB Gull and 1 Common Gull. Also present were 1 Grey Heron, 1 Kestrel, 4 Oystercatcher and 1 Grey Wagtail.
