Nocturnal news and Bretton 14/6/15.

Steady walk home after Saturday night in town along Huddersfield rd. and Wilthorpe Marsh. Calling ad. Tawny Owl on Victoria Crescent and 5 calling juv Tawny Owls at Wilthorpe Marsh. No other owl species heard but I'll be checking again. Moorland birding cancelled due to weather so counts at Bretton were Mallard 102 which included a brood of 8, one of 5 and a single chick with 2 males. Moorhen 2, GC Grebe 2 adults with 1 juv., Coot 35 which included a brood of 4, Canada Goose 34, Greylag 4, Grey Heron 11, Mute Swan 2 adults with 5 young, Tufted Duck 3. Grey Wagtail 1 feeding young, Pied Wagtail 3, 1 male GS Woodpecker and 1 singing Reed Warbler in n.e. corner of lower lake.
